The Coast Guard says it suspended its active search for a missing boater Tuesday night.
Rescue crews conducted an exhaustive search for the missing young man after officials say the 40-foot boat he was aboard ran aground near Purisima Point Monday night, not far from Vandenberg Air Force Base. Officials from Vandenberg said the missing person was a 17-year-old boy.
The Coast Guard received assistance from the Vandenberg Air Force Base Fire Department, the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Department, the Santa Barbara County Fire Department and Calstar. Yesterday's air and surface search covered a total of 31 square nautical miles.
The Coast Guard says two other people were also aboard the vessel at the time of the accident. One of them was injured and the other died. The name of the deceased has not been released.
The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
