The give and take of mother nature

Ah, Mother Nature. So beautiful and mysterious!

And yet a hungry, and most likely awfully cute, little critter ate just enough of the base of one of our giant pumpkin vines last week to kill it. Ack!

Click into this story to see all of the photos. Dr. Joe Sabol came out to help my husband Matthew and I extend the fence line to make room for all of these monster vines on Sunday, August 5. That middle plant was looking more wilty than the others but none of us noticed any of the fresh bite marks.

I am sure they were there.

The next day the plant looked like wilted spinich.

I was crushed. We had just buried a lot of the vines and took great care to water them and everything.

As our contact at Farm Supply said, Mother Nature is in control! That is the life of a farmer.

I have great admirations for you farmers out there!

But you can see by the first photo the pumpkins are bursting, just trying to get out of that fence, and now they have plenty of room!

Onward and upward!
