The man accused of shooting at a CHP pleads not guilty

The San Diego man charged with shooting a CHP officer entered a plea of not guilty Friday morning in court. Clifford Albert Scott, Jr., 22, was charged with two counts of attempted murder during his first court appearance.

According to the San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office, Scott was driving in Paso Robles around 5:30 Saturday morning when a CHP officer tried to pull him over. Scott led the officer on a car chase before crashing. He then took off on foot trying to hide but the CHP officer found him. The two exchanged gunfire. Both the officer and Scott were injured and treated at the hospital for their injuries.

Scott is being charged with two counts of attempted premeditated murder along with two other counts. Scott has a prior conviction in a San Diego County case. His bail is set at $1 million.
