Third Annual Sea Glass Festival held in Cayucos

A small glass festival that started three years ago has turned into one of the most popular events on the Central Coast.

This weekend is the 3rd Annual Cayucos Sea Glass Festival. Glass enthusiasts and craftsmen are coming together to showcase their sea glass creations.

The event costs $3 to enter and includes a Sea Glass Discovery Station, food court, and live music. Guests can also get their picture taken with a real mermaid.

"Sea glass is actually a very special tradition in the mermaid culture. Sea glass comes from mermaid tears, so it takes a long time for the glass to come out, but it's centuries of mermaids that are producing the tears for the beautiful sea glass that shows up on the shores," said Krystle Bartlett, a mermaid.

For $25, guests can also attend a special meet and greet with the author of "Pure Sea Glass."

The festival continues Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Cayucos Veterans Hall at the foot of the pier.
