An elementary school and thousands of homes were briefly without power Wednesday morning in Santa Maria.
PG&E says a transformer blew out at about 8:45 am on West Alvin Avenue.
We're told 4,900 homes lost power.
It was restored to a majority of those homes and Robert Bruce Elementary in about 20 minutes.
But it did make for some excitement at the school.
Ann Sawyer, Robert Bruce Elementary Principal, said, "The transformer blew across the street and made a large bang so we came out to see what happened. The fire chief arrived pretty quickly and he assured us there was no danger to the students."
PG&E is looking into why the transformer failed.
