Friends, family and even strangers saluted three Central Coast soldiers, who returned home from a tour in Afghanistan on the eve of the anniversary of our Independence Wednesday night at the San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport.

Templeton High graduate Kurtis Iaia, Righetti High graduate Cody Samstrung and Arroyo Grande High graduate Tim Brown are serving in the U.S. Army's Infantry Division.

"It doesn't matter where you are, I would take being back home here over being in Spain or Italy anytime on ordinary days. There's nothing like home," said a smiling Iaia.

Bikers from the Welcome Home Military Heroes Organization presented Kurtis with a specially made and autographed flag. They also escorted him all the way back home to Paso Robles.
