Most of us can do a better job of exercising more and eating better.

Well, now there's a whole month on the Central Coast dedicated to getting people, particularly kids, more healthy and it was all inspired by the First Lady.

April is officially "Let's Move SLO" month.

It is organized by HEAL-SLO, which is a collaboration of about 30 local organizations, including Equilibrium Fitness, that works to address childhood obesity.

"We're asking people throughout April to commit by visiting HEALSLO.COM and either committing to eating healthfully, eating locally and getting physically active," said Julian Varela, co-owner of Equilibrium Fitness and co-chair of HEAL-SLO.

Let's Move SLO was inspired by a conference call with First Lady Michelle Obama in which 4,500 people committed to improving the health of our nation's children.

In turn, there are several events planned, including Children's Day in the Plaza in San Luis Obispo.

Saturday's free event from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. includes a Farmers' Market for children, games, activities and much more!

It will also be the kick off for the Rethink Your Drink campaign that promotes drinking water instead of sugary beverages.
