Thursday is America Recycles Day

Each year, Americans generate nearly 230 million tons of trash.

That's more than 4.5 pounds per person, per day.

To help cut down on trash the City of Santa Maria is passing out items to encourage people to recycle.

It's part of the nation-wide "America Recycles Day."

To check it out, just head to the regional landfill on E. Main St. to pick up reusable bags, and other items.
