Tiger girls advance to CIF semifinals with 46-42 road victory, St. Joseph upset

Dan Monroe's Lady Tigers continued their Cinderella run through the CIF playoffs on Wednesday. The San Luis Obispo girls basketball team won at South Pasadena 46-42 in a Division 3A quarterfinal game.

The Tigers won their eighth-straight game and improved to 18-10 overall.

Erica Chandler led the Tigers with 18 points and Morgan Liebscher added 11 for San Luis Obispo. The Tigers led by 9 in the second quarter, but the hosts from South Pasadena tied it in the third quarter. The two teams of Tigers battled the rest of the way with San Luis Obispo pulling out the victory in its first quarterfinal appearance since 1985.

The Tigers host top seeded and 25-3 Chaminade on Saturday in the semifinals. Chaminade routed Estancia 80-40 in the quarters.

Pac-7 champion St. Joseph saw its postseason run end in the quarterfinals with a 67-55 loss at Cantwell Sacred Heart. The Lady Knights, who were seeded #3 in Division 4A, finished the season 19-9. The 6th seeded Cardinals improved to 18-9 and advanced into the semifinals.

The Knights trailed 32-30 at halftime and the game was tied at 49-49 after the third quarter. But the Cardinals outscored the Knights 18-6 in the final eight minutes to end St. Joseph's season.
