Despite a game-high 18 points from David Thoreson, the San Luis Obispo boys basketball team lost 43-36 to Sylmar during day three of St. Joseph's National Prep Classic.
The Tigers fell to 1-2 in the tournament and 4-4 on the season.
Thoreson scored all of San Luis Obispo's points in the first quarter, which ended in an 8-8 tie. The Tigers built a 12-8 lead early in the second quarter on buckets from Parker Lauritzen and Blake Shapazian, but trailed 19-17 at the half.
Shapazian finished with 6 points in the game.
Earl Barker led the Spartans with 10 points, while Ashton Anderson added 8 for Sylmar.
The Tigers finish the tournament on Saturday against Buchanan at 1:30 pm at Hancock College. Mission Prep battles Palmdale at 3pm, while the St. Joseph High girls play 9th ranked Mater Dei at 4:30 pm in challenge games.
The St. Joseph boys play Westchester in the championship at 7:30 pm on Saturday night. The Knights upset the six-time CIF State champions in overtime on Wednesday.
