Behind a five run fifth inning, the San Luis Obispo High baseball team came from behind to beat Pioneer Valley 5-4 to stay perfect in PAC-7 League play on Tuesday.
The Tigers trailed 3-0 going into the home half of the fifth inning. Louie Summer was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to make it a 3-1 game. Garrett Giovanelli followed with a two-run single to tie it 3-3. Then with two outs, Sean Maguire delivered a clutch two-run single to give the Tigers the lead for good.
With the win the Tigers improved to 10-2 overall and 7-0 in league play. Riding a seven game winning streak, the Tigers moved one game ahead of Paso Robles in the league standings. The Bearcats lost at home 10-9 to Righetti to fall to 6-1 in league. Pioneer Valley dropped to 5-5 in league, while the Warriors improved to 6-4 and in sole possession of third place.
Louie Carlos earned the win for the Tigers. He went 5 innings and gave up 2 runs and struck out 5. Marco Murillo earned the save with two innings of one-run relief.
The Panthers took the early 1-0 lead on a run-scoring ground out by Jaime Camarena to score Kyle Smith. Steven Orozco clubbed a run-scoring triple in the third inning and scored on a run-scoring single by Smith to make it 3-0. Ruben Perez drove in a run in the seventh for PV.
Righetti scored two runs in the top of the seventh inning to overcome a 9-8 deficit to hand the Bearcats their first league loss of the season.
Arroyo Grande High baseball scored an 11-2 win at Atascadero. Gunnar Gomez led AG with three hits, Tyler Auerbach added two hits and scored twice, while Jordan Morrison drove in four runs on two hits. Morrison, who's headed to UC Irvine, hit a two-run home run in a five-run fifth inning for the Eagles. AG, the defending PAC-7 champion, improved to 2-5 in league. The Greyhounds are also 2-5 in league headed into Wednesday's game at Arroyo Grande High.
