San Luis Obispo boys basketball remains winless at Mission Prep's 14th annual Christmas Classic. The Tigers led 14-11 after the first quarter, but quickly fell behind 30-20 at halftime against Miramonte on Friday. San Luis Obispo dropped a 67-47 decision to the Matadors in the semifinals of the Elite Division Bracket on Friday.
David Thoreson, who missed the first two games of the Classic with an illness, returned to lead the Tigers with 14 points. Blake Shapazian added 11 points for San Luis Obispo, which fell to 0-3 in the tournament and 5-7 overall.
Drew Anderson was Miramonte's leading scorer. The 6-3 junior poured in 27 points, while Joey Goodreault added 11 points. The Matadors finished 20-10 last season and advanced to the CIF State Division 3 playoffs.
San Luis Obispo will go for its first Classic win on Saturday at 2:30 pm against Marin Catholic. The Wildcats lost to Mission Prep 54-47 on Thursday before beating Righetti 59-59 on Friday.
Miramonte will play the Mission Prep/Mission Hills winner in the Elite Division championship game at 7 pm on Saturday.
