The city of Morro Bay officially welcomes its new police chief.

Tim Olivas was sworn in to his new post at Monday's city council meeting.

He replaces John Derohan who retired last Friday. Olivas was first hired by the Morro Bay Police Department back in 1987. He left in 1990 to work for the California Department of Fish and Game, but returned in 2004 as a commander.
