The signing festivities continued on the Central Coast on Tuesday at Nipomo High School. Baseball star Ryan McNeil signed a national letter of intent with Long Beach State. He will join his brother Jeff, who is a sophomore infielder/outfielder for the Dirtbags.
Ryan is already the most decorated player in Titan program history. Last spring, he led the Titans to a share of their first-ever Los Padres League title and CIF playoff victory. McNeil led Nipomo with a .400 batting average and 20 RBI. He was the team's ace on the mound. He struck out 84 in 65 innings and posted an 1.40 ERA with a 7-1 record.
McNeil will pitch for the Dirtbags.McNeil chose Long Beach State over USC, UCSB, Fullerton and Arizona.
"One of the main reasons it the pitching coach Troy Buckley in my mind is one of the best pitching coaches in the nation. And I really feel that he's going to help me improve on the things that I'm not so good at next year. I'm looking forward to just learning and becoming a better pitcher," said McNeil.
Over the summer, Ryan was selected to play in the prestigious Perfect Game All-American Game and the Area Code Games. He was also invited to try out for Team USA.
Long Beach State has won 11 conference titles, including 8 as a member of the Big West. The Dirtbags have made 19 NCAA Tournament appearances, the most recent was in 2008.
Ryan is at least the twelfth local athlete to sign a national letter of intent since the early signing period opened last Wednesday.
