Behind a solid team effort, the Nipomo High boys track and field team won the Los Padres League Finals on Tuesday to share the league title with defending champion Santa Ynez. The Titan boys entered the league final in second place behind the host Santa Ynez Pirates. The Templeton boys finished third overall, followed by Lompoc, Morro Bay, Cabrillo and Santa Maria.
Thanks to the efforts of star Savannah Camacho, the Templeton girls finished first in the league final. The Eagles finished second in the overall team standings behind defending LPL champion Santa Ynez. The Nipomo girls finished third in the league standings.
Camacho continued her dominance in the Los Padres League by completing a four-peat in the girls mile and 800 meter runs. She also helped the Templeton girls win the 4x400 relay for a fourth-straight year. The Oklahoma State recruit won the mile with a time of 5:16.03, edging fellow Eagle Veronica Russell by less than two seconds.
Camacho finished second in the 100 meter dash with a time of 12.94 seconds. Cabrillo High's Rebecka Miranda defended her title with a time of 12.85 seconds. Miranda also won the 200 im 26.66 seconds, won the long jump with a personal best 17-4.5, and defended her triple jump crown with a leap of 37-6.
Santa Ynez High's Kesley Spry won the 400 meter run with a mark of 61.89 seconds. Morro Bay High's Hannah Cary finished second in 62.41.
Kenny Cromer captured the boys title with a time of 50.87. Templeton's Allen Kroger finished second with a time of 51.67. Cromer also won the high jump and finished second in the 200 dash.
The 110 hurdles were won by Lompoc's Nikko Hayes with a time of 15.37 seconds, while Ify Agbodike of Lompoc won the girl's 100 hurdles title with a time of 16.42. Hayes later set a new personal best when he won the 300 hurdles with a time of 39.92 seoncs.
Nipomo sprinters Josh Gennoe-Sundberg and Tevin Limon finished 1-2 in the 100 meter dash with times of 11.26 and 11.31 seconds. Gennoe-Sundberg also won the 200 meter dash. Limon finished fifth in the 200 and won the pole vault by clearing 15 feet.
Brett Kimball of Nipomo won the boys shot put and finished third in the discus throw.
