Cal Poly's tomato mania has hit the Central Coast.

Cal Poly students are selling more than 75 heirloom tomato varieties they raised on campus.

They started growing them back in December. It is part of the tenth annual Tomato Mania sale.

Many of the tried and true varieties, popular with Central Coast residents, will be available.

They include the Murray Smith, the Beefmaster and the Green Zebra.

"The enterprise projects in general, they're wonderful opportunities because it's a hands-on experience," said Ruz Shokrollahi, a Cal Poly student. "Cal Poly's motto is 'learn by doing,' so they teach you what it takes to actually produce a crop like this as opposed to just reading it out of a book."

The Tomato Mania sale takes place through April and while supplies last.
