Ruiz 6th, Ibarra 8th at State Wrestling Meet

Pioneer Valley senior Mikey Ruiz placed sixth at the State Wrestling Meet while Righetti's Andrew Ibarra finished eighth. Two other area wrestlers competed at the event in Bakersfield as well.

Ruiz won his first three matches in the 220 pound division before losing by fall to Jeramy Sweany from Vacaville. Ruiz won two matches in the consolation bracket before losing an 11-9 decision to Victor Raigoza from Orland. Ruiz won a CIF-SS division championship and finished second at the CIF-SS Masters Meet.

Ibarra lost his first match in the 113 pound weight class before winning five straight. The senior was eventually eliminated by Vincent Elizalde from Brawley in a 10-4 decision.

Atascadero junior Karson Block went 3-2 in the 195 pound weight class. Block lost his first match before winning three straight in the consolation bracket. Santa Maria senior Oscar Velasco went 0-2 at 113 pounds.

At last weeks girls tournament, Courtney Tompkins won a state title at 170 pounds. The Pioneer Valley senior won all five of her matches in helping the Panthers to a third place team finish.
