Too much weight gain during pregnancy could affect child's health

Gaining too much weight during pregnancy could affect the health of the child.

A new study found children born to women who gained 40 pounds or more while pregnant had an 8% increased risk of obesity through the age of 12. Researchers say that could translate into several hundred thousand cases of excess childhood obesity cases every year.

Doctors suggest programs that help pregnant women limit their weight gain may be an important way of preventing an obesity epidemic in the next generation.
