It is only fitting that royalty is part of KSBY's Top 10 Local Sports Stories of 2012. The Mission Prep girls basketball team's magical CIF playoff run is our ninth top story of the year.
The Royals were led by three senior stars all season long. Point guard Jenna Dunbar averaged 14 points, 4 rebounds and 3 steals per game, while Kaylee Williams averaged 12 points, 5 rebounds and almost 4 steals per game. Bri Harvey scored 14 points and grabbed 6 rebounds per contest.
Mission Prep beat Villanova Prep 56-45 to capture the program's 19th CIF Section title in Santa Ana on March 3.
From there, the Royals advanced to the CIF State Championship game in Sacramento. The Royals lost 70-64 to Brookside Christian to end their magical playoff run and 29 game winning streak.
Mission finished the season 32-2, the best mark in program history.
KSBY Sports will unveil our tenth and final top story on Friday and then open the web poll to have our viewers decide the #1 story of the 2012.
