Top ranked Righetti cruises in CIF opener 19-3

Keanu Martinez scored on a penalty shot within the first minute of the game and the Righetti High boys water polo team cruised from that point on in its 19-3 first round win over Rancho Cucamonga on Thursday. The Warriors, the #1 seed in Division 4, improved to 24-6 and advanced into the second round of the CIF playoffs.

The Warriors advanced to the CIF semifinals last season.

Martinez finished with 3 goals in the game. Senior Will Boerger led the Warriors with 4 goals.Jeremy Grden added 3. A total of nine Righetti players fired shots to the back of the cage. Travis Knight, Matthew Shuppen and Connor Albright scored two apiece. Devon Tomooka, Brandon Heuchert and Jacob Herrera added one each.

The Warriors play on the road in Saturday's second round. Righetti plays at La Habra in Saturday's quarterfinals. La Habra beat El Segundo 15-14 in Thursday's first round.
