The race for the Los Padres League baseball title remains tight after a Tuesday of league games. First place Templeton blanked Santa Maria 15-0, while second place Santa Ynez topped Nipomo 4-1 and third place Cabrillo came from behind to edge Morro Bay 10-9.
Andy Garretson, Spencer Howard and Chase Koehler combined on a 3-hit shutout and the Eagles hitters pounded out sixteen hits as Templeton crushed the Saints. Garretson got the win and the trio of pitchers racked up fourteen strikeouts on the day. Mitchell Pendley was 3 for 3 with two doubles and two RBI and Spencer Walsh was 3 for 3 with 2 RBI and two runs scored for Templeton, which improved to 15-3 overall and 8-1 in league.
Hunter Totemeier struck out 13 in a complete game effort in Santa Ynez's 4-1 win at Nipomo. The Pirates improved to 8-2 in league, while the Titans fell to 3-7. Nick Ruelas hit two run-scoring singles to account for half of the Pirates' runs.
Cabrillo overcame a 9-6 deficit in the bottom of the eighth inning to stun Morro Bay 10-9. Andrew Watson and Boomer Duffey both drew bases loaded walks for the tying and winning runs. The Conquistadores won their fifth in a row to improve to 6-3 in LPL action. Crosstown rival Lompoc is also 6-3.
Friday, Templeton hosts Cabrillo, Santa Ynez welcomes in Santa Maria and Lompoc travels to Morro Bay.
