Tornado hits near Sacramento, no injuries reported

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - A tornado has touched down north of the state capital, but only minor damage has been reported.

The National Weather Service in Sacramento says it had no reports of injuries from the tornado, which hit about 3:15 p.m. Monday near Yuba City, about 40 miles north of Sacramento.

Meteorologist Eric Kurth says there were several other reports of funnel clouds north of Sacramento but no reports of them touching down.

He says the Yuba City tornado moved a small outbuilding about 200 feet and caused damage to the Mallard Lake Golf Center.

He says there also have been reports of downed trees and power lines as the first storm of the season moved through Northern California.

Kurth says the reports were confirmed by Sutter County sheriff's deputies and firefighters.
