Students at Tunnell Elementary School in Santa Maria are doing their part to help Haiti.

The kids raised more than 13-hundred dollars for relief efforts in the earthquake-torn country. This morning, they proudly presented the check to the American Red Cross. The kids returned from winter break and came up with the idea.

"They said could we help Haiti and so we did some research and found that giving money to the Red Cross was the best way to help Haiti immediately," said Patsy Mitchell, a 3rd grade teacher.

The students and staff raised money through a coin and cash drive.
