Twin Cities awarded Blue Distinction Center designation

Twin Cities Community Hospital has been awarded the title of Blue Distinction Center by Blue Shield of California.

The hospital received the honor for its work in knee and hip replacement. Blue Shield awards the designations to hospitals that adhere to the best practices in patient safety and surgical care. "Twin's Center of Excellence designation is a reflection of the skill of our physicians and support staff, and achievement of quality outcomes among our patients, said Rick Lyons, Chief Executive Officer, in a press release.

The criteria includes:
-Established acute care inpatient facility, including intensive care, emergency care, and a full range of patient support services with full accreditation by a CMS-deemed national accreditation organization
-Experience and training of program surgeons, including case volume
-Quality management programs, including surgical checklists as well as tracking and evaluation of clinical outcomes and process of care
-Multi-disciplinary clinical pathways and teams to coordinate and streamline care, including transitions of care
-Shared decision making and preoperative patient education

There are about 1,600 hospitals that have been awarded this designation nationwide.
