Two people are behind bars after a man with no gang affiliation, police said, was attacked with a hammer back in June. David Ybarra, 19, and an unidentified 17-year-old boy, are being charged with attempted murder, attempted robbery, participation in a criminal street gang, and commission of a hate crime. Santa Barbara Police say they are both members of a Santa Barbara area gang. On June 22, a 40-year-old man was beaten with a hammer, suffering a serious head injury. Police believe the victim was targeted because of his Mexican nationality.
