Two residents, one from Santa Maria and another from Nipomo, have been arrested for attempted murder, after a stabbing back in February.
It started on Feb. 14, when Santa Maria police officers were sent to a party in the 300 block of W. Agnes on a report of a fight. When officers got to the home, it appeared a female victim was attacked by Veronica Cuevas, 23, and later punched by Corey Benton, 26. Benton knocked the victim unconscious. Officers say the victim's boyfriend came to her aid, and got into a fight with Benton. Benton stabbed the victim's boyfriend several times, then took off with Cuevas.
In the following weeks, Benton and Cuevos were wanted to attempted murder. On March 17, officers caught up with Cuevos after a traffic stop. Officers found a handgun in her vehicle. She was booked as an accessory to attempted murder.
Then, just yesterday, Benton was seen leaving a liquor store just before 11:00 p.m. He was booked into Santa Barbara County Jail for an outstanding felony warrant, as well as attempted murder. He's being held without bail.
