Two Los Alamos men are arrested on attempted murder charges after deputies say they fired shots at a couple during a dispute over a loan.
Santa Barbara County Sheriff's deputies say last Friday, September 2nd, they received reports of shots fired in the 500 block of Waite Street in Los Alamos at about 9:15pm.
Deputies learned there had been a dispute over a loan between a 31-year-old man from Los Alamos and 23-year-old Gregory Miranda. That night, Miranda and his friend 18-year-old Ivan Uribe went to the victim's home and knocked on the door. Investigators say the victim's wife opened the door, and quickly closed it and wouldn't let the two in. Her husband armed himself with a handgun and took his wife with him out into their backyard.
Deputies say the victim then called to Miranda in the front of his house to show his hands. Instead, deputies say, Mirand pulled out a handgun and fired two rounds at the man. The victim told deputies he shot two gunshots into the air, and Uribe and Miranda then ran away. As they fled, investigators say shots hit the front of the victim's home from their direction. No one was hurt.
On Wednesday, deputies say they were able to serve a search warrant at Miranda's residence in the 800 block of Bell Street in Los Alamos. At that time, Uribe was taken into custody. A few hours later, Miranda arrived at the residence and was also taken into custody.
Deputies say the two have been booked into Santa Barbara County Jail on charges of attempted murder and criminal conspiracy. Both are being held on $500,000 bail.
