Two people arrested in connection with illegal prescription drug sales in Isla Vista area

Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Deputies arrested two people they say were in possession of Xanax for sale.

Earlier this week, detectives received a tip that there was a suspicious posting on Craigslist that appeared to be advertising prescription medication for sale. Detectives started talking to the person who posted the ad. He was identified as Gabriel Yanowitz, 21, who lives in Isla Vista.

Deputies say Yanowitz offered to sell them 1,000 Xanax pills on Thursday. They met up with him in the Isla Vista area, and after they confirmed he had the pills and was trying to sell them, he was taken into custody.

Detectives and Isla Vista Foot Patrol were able to determine there was a second person who was also involved in illegal prescription drug sales. They say Tyler Peltier, 19, of Santa Barbara, was supplying the Xanax to Yanowitz so he could sell it.

Deputies served a search warrant at Yanowitz's apartment in the 6700 block of Del Playa Drive. Inside, they found 200 Xanax pills and narcotics paraphernalia. They served a search warrant at Peltier's home in the 700 block of North La Cumbre Road in Santa Barbara. There, they found more than 1,100 Xanax pills.

In total, deputies seized about 2,300 Xanax pills, worth approximately $16,000.

Yanowitz and Peltier were arrested for possession for sale of a controlled substance.

They were both booked in the Santa Barbara County Jail. Bail is set at $30,000.

According to the Santa Barbara County Sheriff's Office, 82 people were arrested on Halloween in Santa Barbara County.
