The Five Cities Fire Department says two people were injured in a single vehicle accident Sunday afternoon in Arroyo Grande.
It happened around 4:15 p.m. near the corner of Elm Street and Grand Avenue.
Firefighters arrived at the scene and found a car that had struck and severed a utility pole in front of Sunset Car Wash. The car came to rest about 30 feet west of the pole in the intersection of Grand Avenue and Elm Street.
Traffic was rerouted away from the accident while police picked up debris in the roadway and cleared the scene. The pole was also hazardous because it was still standing, but it wasn't supported.
Firefighters and paramedics extricated the passenger from the car. They say both the passenger and the driver were taken to the hospital with undetermined injuries.
PG&E was notified about the damaged pole, and they got to the scene about 30 minutes after the accident. They determined that a telephone company was in charge of fixing the pole and the attached lines.
The Arroyo Grande Police Department is investigating the accident.
