Two people suspected of burglarizing vacation rentals in Oceano

The San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's Office is investigating a couple of vacation home burglaries in Oceano.

In one case, investigators said some people were returning to their vacation rental in the 300 block of McCarthy Avenue on Wednesday, and noticed a woman carrying a purse that had been stolen from their rental the previous day. A fight started when the people confronted the woman. Deputies arrived and the woman ran into a nearby home, then escaped out the back door. Sheriff's officials have identified her as Amelia Covington, 33, of Oceano. She has a warrant out for her arrest. Deputies searched the home she ran through and say they found stolen clothing, jewelry and make-up.

In a previous incident, purses with money and credit cards were taken from a vacation home on Monday. Sheriff's officials say they learned that one of the credit cards was used at a convenience store, so deputies used surveillance footage to identify the suspect. They arrested Chase Twomey, 26, of Arroyo Grande, on suspicion of burglary, receiving stolen property, and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Deputies say they found credit cards, an iPhone and a laptop at his home.
