Santa Maria police officers are searching for two men they believe assaulted a local man Wednesday night.
Officers say 23-year-old Javier Covarrubias was on the 1800 blk. of David Sanchez St. at about 10:50p.m. Wednesday. He was apparently in a verbal fight with 27-year-old Michael Liendo. Covarrubias told officers that Liendo stabbed him in the chest while they were fighting. That's when the suspect's father, 53-year-old Jaime Aguilera who was reportedly nearby, began kicking Covarrubias.
Investigators say the two suspects got away in their vehicle. They have not been caught.
Police officers say Covarrubias was able to get himself to Marian Medical Center for treatment. He has since been released.
