Despite 22 points, 6 assists and zero turnovers from freshman guard Taran Brown, the UCSB men's basketball team lost 100-72 at Illinois State on Monday. The Gauchos dropped to 0-2, while the Redbirds improved to 1-0.
Illinois State used a 21-0 run midway through the first half to build a 27-6 lead and coasted to a victory.
Senior forward Jackie Carmichael led the Redbirts with a game-high 27 points, including 17 in the first half.
ISU shot 63 percent in the first half and built a 49-29 lead the half. The Gauchos shot 42 percent in the first half and 41 percent in the game.
Sophomore forward Alan Williams completed his first double-double of the season for UCSB with 15 points, a career-high 13 rebounds, 4 blocked shots and 3 steals. TJ Taylor added 10 points on 4 for 6 shooting from the floor, including 2-2 from 3-point range.
UCSB returns home to play its home opener on Saturday at the Thunderdome against The Master's College.
