The Paso Robles School Board unanimously denied the petition for a new charter school Tuesday night.

The group of organizers and supporters wanted to open the school this fall with an initial enrollment of 180 students in grades "K" through eight, with the possible expansion to 410 students after the first year.

The next step for the group will be to appeal to the county or take the petition to a neighboring district.

More than 150 people showed up for Tuesday's vote.
