Unit 2 at Diablo Canyon Nuclear Power Plant was safely shut down Sunday as part of planned refueling and maintenance, PG&E announced Monday.
The utility says more than 11,000 tasks will be performed in order to enhance the operation of Unit 2.
Unit 1 will continue to generate electricity during the Unit 2 outage.
Each of the plant's two reactor units is refueled every 18 months. Outages typically last an average of eight weeks.
