United Way of San Luis Obispo organized two efforts to send students back to school with tools they need to succeed. Stuff the Bus and KidSpree helped provide children with appropriate clothing and supplies needed.
The community was invited out to literally to stuff a big yellow bus with school supplies for the 4th annual Stuff the Bus. Volunteers manned the busses and collected school supplies outside locations in San Luis Obispo County and Santa Barbara County.
During the week-long event, over $12,000 worth of school supplies was collected, which included more than 450 boxes of crayons, 1,200 notebooks, and 7,200 pencils. All donations are kept local and were distributed among eleven school districts in the county.
Nearly 200 local children were helped during the 15th annual KidSpree. Children are now ready to return to class this fall with proper attire thanks to the donations from the community. Participants were nominated by local nonprofit agencies and were paired with a community volunteer to help them shop for the items they most needed.
