Several local volunteers and organizations, including KSBY, received high honors in Santa Maria Tuesday.
The Northern Santa Barbara County chapter of the United Way recognized volunteers, students and businesses who helped make a difference in the Santa Maria community last year.
KSBY proudly accepted the award for "Outstanding Supporter of the Year."
In 2010, the United Way and its supporters focused on literacy campaigns like the Imagination Library and the Reading Plus Program.
"These kids are receiving books, their parents are giving us incredible feedback about how it's impacting not just the kids, but also the parents and the families, and instilling a love of reading," said Eddie Taylor, CEO of the Northern Santa Barbara County chapter of the United Way.
United Launch Alliance received the award for "Outstanding Partner of the Year."
