University Police searching for attempted robbery suspect

Cal Poly University Police are looking for a man they say was involved in an attempted robbery Saturday.

It happened around 12:50 p.m.

Police received a call about an attempted robbery that happened on the sidewalk between Village Drive and Poly Canyon Village.

A Cal Poly student told police he was walking alone on the sidewalk when a man approached him and punched him in the face twice.

The man demanded money, but ran away from the area when the victim tried to defend himself. According to the victim, the suspect ran northbound towards Poly Canyon Village. No property was actually taken, and the victim had only minor injuries.

The University Police Department teamed up with San Luis Obispo Police and the California Highway Patrol to search for a suspect, but they weren't able to find him. The CHP even used its helicopter in the search.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic male, about 20 years old, 6'1", weighing about 175 pounds with an athletic-type build. Police say he has short, black hair and looks clean cut with no visible scars or tattoos. He was last seen wearing a gray and black beanie and a dark maroon hoodie sweatshirt with no print.

If you have any information, contact the University Police Department at 805-756-2281.
