This month, people can get a very different perspective of the war in Afghanistan by paying a visit to the Santa Maria Library.
An exhibit of photos called "Unseen Afghanistan" is being shown at the library. They were taken by USAF Major Stacie Shafran of Vandenberg Air Force Base, who served in Afghanistan.
The photos tell a story of military life in Afghanistan. Specifically, Shafran's exhibit shows members of the armed forces working to improve the life of people who live in Afghanistan in the aftermath of the war.
"I hope that when people leave here, they understand more of the positive things that we were doing and continue to do in Afghanistan," said Major Shafran, who is Director of Public Affairs of the U.S. Air Force at Vandenberg Air Force Base.
Shafran served two tours of duty in Afghanistan and one in Iraq.
She's also an award-winning journalist and photographer.
