Local malls were bustling with shoppers. Firefighters said that could have been the reason for a problem on Sunday at Santa Maria Town Center. Shoppers may have smelled something unusual. Firefighters received a report of a possible smell of natural gas. It turned out to be a problem with the sewer lines. Firefighters say they've had problems at the mall in the past with grease getting backed up in the sewer lines. Javier Rodriguez, Santa Maria resident, said, "It was a very strange smell. We didn't know what it was but it smelled like sewer." Firefighters said two businesses were affected.
