Cal Poly officials sent an alert to students Friday morning, warning them a bear had been spotted near the creek at the Crop Sciences Unit. Fish and Wildlife officials were reportedly on scene.
A police official said they thought they had corned the bear, but it appeared to have run off. Crews are searching from the air, and the ground to locate the bear.
The large bear was first spotted Thursday night near Lincoln Deli in the area of Broad and Hill Streets.
Police later tracked the 300 pound animal to the area near Sierra Vista Regional Medical Center. They had hoped to chase the bear back into the wild, but several people reported seeing the bear within city limits again Friday morning.
