The California Highway Patrol says Linda Wall, 68, a former Santa Ynez Valley high school teacher from Buellton injured when a suspected drunk driver hit her Toyota Highlander, has died.
The California Highway Patrol says Rebecca Sandoval, 37, of Lompoc is suspected of driving under the influence when the accident happened Thursday around 2 p.m. on Highway 246 near the Chumash Casino.
Investigators say Sandoval was driving eastbound on Highway 246, east of Cuesta Road, at 55 miles-per-hour when the vehicle in front of her driven by Wall started slowing down to stop at a red light.
CHP says Sandoval was driving at an unsafe speed and collided with the rear end of Wall's Highlander.
The Highlander then hit a Chevy Equinox that was already stopped at the red light.
CHP says Wall was taken to the hospital where she later died. The two people in the Equinox were treated and released at the hospital for minor injuries.
Investigators say Sandoval was arrested at the scene on suspicion of driving under the influence.
