UPDATE: Charges expected to be filed against teen accused of setting fires in Atascadero

The Atascadero Fire Department says charges are expected to be filed against the teen suspected of starting two small vegetation fires along Atascadero Creek Friday afternoon.

Officials say a young teen boy started the fires with a lighter. He was not arrested.

The first fire was reported around 2:20 p.m. on the 9100 block of Morro Road. Firefighters say it burned less than an acre.

The second was reported less than 10 minutes later on the 8500 block of Piedras Altos. Firefighters say that fire burned about an acre.

No structures were damaged, but fire officials say seven firefighters were stung by bees because two bee hives were located in the area of the second fire. They are all OK.
