UPDATE: No injuries reported in Santa Maria gas leak; 80 people temporarily evacuated

80 people were temporarily evacuated Sunday evening following a gas leak in Santa Maria.

It happened around 9:30 p.m. at 206 East Hermosa.

The Santa Maria Fire Department responded to reports of a gas leak near homes. They arrived and found a single vehicle had sheared off a large service gas line in an alley between El Camino and Hermosa Streets.

Firefighters helped the Gas Company, and Santa Maria police helped with evacuations and traffic control. American Medical Response was on standby.

No injuries were reported.

Firefighters say 80 people were evacuated for about three hours during the incident.
