The California Highway Patrol says a driver who crashed into a big rig truck on Highway 166 Tuesday morning was drunk.
Officers say Torrance resident Christian Rossi, 21, was driving westbound on Highway 166, about a half-mile from Highway 101, when he crossed into oncoming traffic.
Rossi's BMW collided with a truck, which rolled onto its side.
The truck driver was not injured.
Rossi suffered major injuries and was trapped in his car for 30 minutes before rescue crews were able to extricate him.
He was taken to the hospital and placed under arrest.
Highway 166 was closed for about three hours while officers investigated and crews cleaned up the scene.
