The Santa Maria Police Department has released information on the victims after Phillip Craig Bailey, of Atascadero, robbed Chase Bank on the 1800 block of North Broadway and carjacked a patrol unit.
Santa Maria Police say Bailey collided with a Chevy pick-up truck, causing it to spin 360 degrees around. The driver of the truck had major injuries to his back. Police say the passenger had injuries to her mid-torso. Both were taken to Marian Medical Center.
The collision caused the patrol unit to veer into the parking lot of Su Mesa Mercada. It struck a pedestrian as she was walking to her parked car. Police say the impact sent her flying over two parked cars, landing at least 30 feet away. They say she has a broken back and ribs and head trauma.
Police also say they suspect Bailey was under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
