San Luis Obispo County Sheriff's deputies arrested Charles Haig Guenther, 36, in Los Osos on Tuesday.
Guenther was wanted in connection to an alleged domestic violence incident earlier in the day.
Sheriff's officials say the victim drove herself to the hospital with cuts on her hands and a cut on her abdomen, believed to have been made by a samurai sword.
Deputies surrounded the suspect's home on Tuesday afternoon and locked down nearby Monarch Grove Elementary School as a precaution.
Sheriff's officials say Guenther came out of the home on his own and was arrested.
He was taken to the hospital for treatment of injuries to his leg, which Sheriff's officials say were made by the victim as she fought back.
