UPDATE: Suspicious device in San Luis Obispo not a threat

According to the San Luis Obispo Police Department, the suspicious device was not a bomb. They said the San Luis Obispo County Bomb Squad was able to take a look at the object and determined, it was safe. They called it a hoax.

All streets are now open.

Some streets in downtown San Luis Obispo are blocked off after a possible pipe bomb was found near Pismo and Chorro streets, according to officials with the San Luis Obispo Police Department.

Police say around 3 p.m., a passerby noticed the suspicious device partially in the street and called police.

Police have closed off Chorro Street between Pacific and Buchon, and Pismo Street between Morro and Garden.

The San Luis Obispo County bomb squad is now on scene and will evaluate the device and remove it.

No evacuations have been ordered, but police ask everyone to stay away from the area.
