UPDATE: Turkey Fire chars 2,000 acres

CAL FIRE says the Turkey Fire has now charred around 2,000 acres of dry grass near Parkfield in Monterey County.

The fire started around 11:30 a.m. Monday near Turkey Flat Road and Cholame Road. The fire is not threatening any structures and fire crews have reached approximately 15 percent containment.

Firefighters from San Luis Obispo County CAL FIRE sent in a helicopter, four hand crews, a water tender and a bulldozer to assist Monterey County CAL FIRE.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
