Upset bid falls short, 55th ranked Mustangs fall 5-2 to 35th ranked Middle Tennessee State

Andre Dome and Jordan Bridge teamed up to win in doubles and won their singles matches, but the 55th ranked Cal Poly men's tennis team could not pull off the upset of 35th ranked Middle Tennessee State on Monday in a 5-2 defeat on the Mustang Courts.

Bridge and Dome, a senior and Arroyo Grande High graduate, won their doubles set 8-4 over Yannick Born and Marlon Brand. But the Blue Vikings took the next two doubles sets 8-5 and 8-6 to earn the doubles point.

Dome, who's ranked 32nd in the nation in singles, made quick work of 92nd ranked Ben Davis winning the #1 singles match in straight-sets 6-1 and 6-2 to even the match at 1-1. Bridge also topped Christoph Lang 4-6, 6-3 and 6-2 at the #2 position.

However, Middle Tennessee State won the four other singles matches to take the non-conference match.

#3 Marco Commuzo lost to Born 5-7, 6-4, 6-3. #4 Derek Klein fell to Victor Cornea 6-4,6-3, #6 David Fox beat Cal Poly's Naveen Beasley 7-6, 6-4, and Jurgen De Jager playing in the #5 spot fell 7-5, 2-6, 2-2 before retiring.

Cal Poly returns to the courts on Sunday at 1:30 pm when the Mustangs host Princeton.
