Radar and rain gauges had showed hourly rain rates of over one half an inch late this morning. The heaviest rain was moving east though the central portion of the county and extended north from the Gaviota to the Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo county line. Scattered thunderstorms and heavy showers will continue through the afternoon and create periods of significant ponding on area roadways with some flooding in low lying areas and intersections. The rain may send loose rocks and boulders onto roadways below steep terrain.
